Project Update:  Amos Herr Park Wetland

In April of 2021, one of our clients – East Hempfield Township (EHT) – was awarded over $302K for the Amos Herr Park Wetland Restoration project because of the application work of Charity Burkhart, RLA, LEED AP, SEO. Charity is our Municipal Services Department’s MS4 Program Manager.

Charity shared this update on the progress so far:

After grading was completed, an additional 3 acres of possible wetland expansion was added. Wetlands exist on an adjacent property downstream, and this re-grading created a seamless transition and expansion. The remaining 3.5 acres on site were planted to include a native meadow area to enhance the local wildlife habitat and provide a filter for surface runoff prior to entering the new wetland. This is a significant upgrade from the mowed turfgrass present on the site just a few seasons ago.

Charity BurkhartA network of interconnected trail pathways, which winds around the meadow and provides views of the newly created wetland area, added an additional ½ mile to the current network of pathways on the Amos Herr Campus. The project in total will reduce sediment by 98,015 pounds and nitrogen by 2,369.46 pounds to the Swarr Run.

Charity, your expertise and investment will benefit many lives for generations to come. Thank you!
