Habitat for Humanity ReStore
DM/A transformed a challenging brownfield site spanning two municipalities into a functional Habitat ReStore location, addressing contamination, access, and multi-agency coordination.
This unique site for Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore location sits within two municipalities and is bound by a railroad line running north to south along the east side of the property. Considering the many challenges of the site—tight square footage, complex location, and balancing multiple stakeholder concerns—DM/A’s efforts allowed for the establishment of a commercial lot that accommodates large incoming donations and retail operations, with appropriate parking and access.
A previous use of the site as an asphalt plant left this brownfield with soil contamination. DM/A coordinated with a remediation consultant to ensure proper demolition of existing conditions and to build from an improved base site condition. To navigate the differing design standards between the two municipalities, DM/A took leadership in negotiating with the respective review agencies. Adding to the complexity of the project was a required rebuild of McKinley Avenue, completed in partnership with the City of Lancaster.
With DM/A’s land planning expertise and organizational oversight, this development brings maximum benefit to the community and reclaims a long-neglected property for meaningful reuse.
