Overseas Volunteer Project: Destination Vanuatu
In September, Jim Boyer (right photo) and another volunteer (left photo) traveled to Espiritu Island of Vanuatu with Tim Johnston to lend their skills to a special project.
Friends in Action International and Tim Johnston are partnering with the Gravity Fed Water Team from The Collaboratory for Strategic Partnerships and Applied Research to deliver water to over 30 villages and 1300 people on the island via a gravity fed water system.
The system will include a spring catchment system at the source, over 15 miles of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping, and over 30 water storage tanks along the pipe network. The Gravity Fed Water Team began working on this system in September 2017 and aims to complete the design by 2020.
